Fluoride

Fluoride is a substance that helps teeth become stronger and resistant to decay. Fluoride treatments at the Oregon Tech Dental Hygiene Clinic involve fluoride varnish which is painted onto the teeth. This is a painless and inexpensive procedure that is effective in preventing and sometimes reversing tooth decay. Ask your hygienist about fluoride varnish at your next visit.

Child Cleanings

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child visit the dentist by his or her first birthday or within six months of the first erupting tooth. Beginning dental care at an early age is important for a variety of reasons. Early visits provide opportunities to address preventive issues that are vital to healthy teeth and a pleasing smile. Dental visits that are scheduled before problems develop can be kept short and help the child become relaxed in the dental environment. (AAPD)

Adult Cleanings

The American Dental Hygienists' Association recommends professional cleanings every six months. Achieving optimum oral health depends upon your personal care at home as well as proper care from a trained professional hygienist. Your student hygienist will clean your teeth as well as assess any potential threats to your oral health. He/she can also assist you with nutritional counseling, tobacco counseling, oral hygiene instruction and aids, and denture cleaning and labeling.

Sealants

Sealants protect the grooves and depressions that form the chewing surfaces on the back teeth. These grooves are very difficult and sometimes impossible to clean.

Tooth Decay Prevention

Tooth decay is a progressive disease caused by the interaction of naturally occurring bacteria on the teeth and sugars in the everyday diet. Dental decay is avoidable by brushing and flossing twice daily, maintaining regular dentist visits, diet control, and fluoride treatments.

Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal disease (gum disease) is the result of bacterial infection that causes destruction of the bone surrounding your teeth. Non-surgical periodontal therapy is a procedure during which the hygienist removes plaque and tartar from below the gum line. Root surfaces are cleaned and smoothed with specially designed instruments. This can restore periodontal health, slow or stop progression of gum disease, or in more extreme cases prepare the tissue for more complex periodontal therapy.

Oral Cancer Screenings

The oral cancer screening is often completed with an ultraviolet light or similar device that affords a view of issues potentially undetected by the human eye under normal conditions. If you smoke, use tobacco, or are a heavy user of alcohol make sure to get regular screenings when you visit the dentist. It could save your life.

Whitening

To whiten your teeth, we utilize a tray whitening system which is completed in two steps. The first step is to make an impression of your teeth. With this impression, we will craft custom reusable whitening trays. The second step is the delivery of your trays with the whitening product. Over the next several days you will put the product in the trays and wear them daily for a short period of time.

Athletic Mouthguards

The appointment to acquire a mouthguard is a two-step process. The first step is to make an impression of your mouth in order to create a guard. Custom guards offer better protection and are more effective than stock or bite and boil guards because they are specifically tailored to fit your mouth. The second step is delivery of the mouthguard to ensure a proper and comfortable fit.
